0:00 Introduction
1:18 Charles Ross Taggart Performing
This is Charles Ross Taggart (19 March 1871, Washington, D.C. - 4 July 1953, Kents Hill, Maine) an American comedian and folklorist who appeared all over North America as "The Man From Vermont" and "The Old Country Fiddler" from 1895 to 1938. He grew up in Topsham, Vermont, and later lived in Newbury for many years in a house he called "Elmbank," which overlooked the railroad depot.
Recorded with Lee de Forest's Phonofilm process in 1923, this technology ushered in the beginning of sound-on-film. Eventually, Hollywood studios would create their own sound-on-film systems that most of us are familiar with today.

No offense but them boys in hell lol i mean cmon Nat Turner is too lol
My ggg grandfather was a Civil War veteran and was still living at the time this wonderful footage was taken. He was one of the last veterans known to have been living in Indiana when he died. He was an Englishmen who was the only one of his family who came to America. He fought in the Battle of the Wilderness and was taken prisoner. He was consequently one of the last people who personally experienced that horrible camp that died.
I, Jeff Miller, spoke with a man who interviewed with Thomas Edison in 1922 -- of course, this was no Zoom call but an in-person interview. Yardley Chittick had graduated from MIT and passed some IQ-like test prior to speaking with him. I called Chiitick in 2004 or 2005 and he was born in 1900 and lived until almost 108. He turned the Wizard of Menlo Park down and worked for a golf club manufacturer. Humphrey bogart was an older prep-school class mate who apparently bullied Chiitick. Chittick told me to walk for exercise. I had called him after hearing him on NPR.
Seems like a real long time ago. But I'd it really. The United States is a very young Country compared to Countries in Europe. In the Middle East.
There's an error in the transcription. It's not "lightning jars". What he said was "Leyden jars".
Sounds embellished...
It seems to me that he saw so much more technological change in his 102 years than has someone who is 102 now. Mid-1800s to mid-1900s was a huge leap.
Absolutely amazing
Now compare to our elderly that can barely speak. Pharma conspiracy is real people. It is real
Back when america spoke proper English
Babe Ruth being called black or mixed was started by Ty Cobb because Cobb didn't like him and would call him that . Babe was not all or part black. This seems like another attempt by black radical's to claim this to say any great athlete is at least part black which is nonsense.
His voice reminds me of senator Strom Thurmond. Im from Edgefield County and he spoke at my graduation STHS in 1992.
“Oh cool an actual video of civil war vets-“ ‘I fought for the War of Rebellion-‘ “Oh nevermind I thought they were vets not traitors”
The Dutch ? Why were they called Dutch if they were Americans?
They probably punched him in the face when he said I’m not gonna go on TV and lie
"I'm 94 years old" "That's a good age for a young man" Damn sir...i'm 28 in 5 days and the guy that was 84 looks sharper than most of my friends How the hell ?
He sounds like the kid who says "apparently" in Ellen.
I didn't even exist in 1947 but this man was 101yrs old in 1948.Amazing how I can see and hear him at my old age of 54 in 2024! 70 something years later I see him on RUclips time machine.
There's no more humans born from 1899 alive today in 2024.The last female born 1899 died at age 117yrs old on April 5, 2017.The last man that died at age 116yr in 2013 was born 1897.
All it took was 100 years for humanity to be so different. Let’s have peace. Once and for all. Forever
not possible
The way these men talk, it’s like a story. Strong minded men for sure. Serious people in what they are and do. My friend is very similar, he’s 71 and probably a slight genius
I guess the US Civil War then was the equivalent today of the Vietnam war today.
Yeah, it’s still the deadliest war in American history
Every war is engineered to benefit the people that will never fight in it.
Amazing
hello from 2024! ... this is incredible!
Your message at the end made me laugh. These two men fought against their country
It's seems Price has been around in wars since far more than we know
I have been in that lab at Greenfield Village Dearborn Mi . There is a chair in the middle of the floor and it is there because Henry Ford and Edison met there and Edison was the last person to sit in it right where it is .
Were these me of the confederate army?
If they fought under general price that means they fought for the Confederacy
Remember, the Civil war was closer to WW1 then we are to WW2, and in sometime 2025, WW2's end will be closer to 1865 then it will be 2025.
Martin is a effing legend
Imagine kids today in June 2024 listening and the amount of knowledge they could gain
Amazing history right there.
Better then biden
Excellent,!!!❤️❤️❤️🎉❤️🎉3🎉
What other nation was Harrison referring to here in this speech? Was there a pending conflict? I'm doing research and would appreciate any help from the Audience on the matter.
I never thought I would hear a first hand account of the Civil War. Cannot thank you enough for posting this.
She had me at Mexican Tamales for 5 CENTS! mannnnnnnnnn, RIP to her. god bless her soul
These two are military veterans, but should not be honored as American military veterans. They fought to disband the Union. Quit deifying soldiers for being pawns in a losing game of chess.
Back when Biden was still just a young senator... 😂
For being 94, he looked really healthy
What do you think they would say about our present day administration ???????
hello fellow stoners
When he talked about how the present leader of Russia would react to democracy, I thought he was talking about Putin... but it was Stalin. Some things still haven't changed.
I’m really impressed at how progressive she was. Doesn’t sound much bothered about modernity.
Just had a great sandwich.
About to fry some fish & have it with some spaghetti I made yesterday.
Tune sounds like "Turkey in the Straw". Still popular in Old-Time and Bluegrass today.
Confederates were traitors, much like modern day Republicans. Hateful....the far-right has always been about violence and hate. It is sad that they are allowed to hold any type of office.
thank god for you tube. I dont watch tv anymore, why would you ? when you have content like this you can watch?
